In August 2013, Legendary Cyphers started in Union Square Park, which became the home of New York City rap freestyle culture. Initially it was a group of friends, local rappers, videographers who came together to do a one time cypher. During the event, locals would spectate and some even participated. The way people expressed themselves and reacted sparked an idea, it was made clear, it should be a weekly cypher. 

As the Cyphers started getting more attraction, it became a free seasonal event from May-November, Fridays Nights, 8pm-12am. It embodied a community within hip hop culture which involved freestyle rappers, beatboxers, musicians, singers, and many other artists that gravitated towards the cypher.

While the cypher developed into an entertaining, educational space, Legendary Cyphers established itself as a movement that showcases the raw, authentic, unscripted rap freestyle experience. As a brand, Legendary Cyphers provides merchandise, music, and content.

Over 10 years, Legendary Cyphers has expanded from its New York City origins from having a presence in the park to digitally broadcasting to a larger global audience, Which has led inspiration for people to come experience the cypher culture. Hundreds of people have stopped by on a friday night and thousands have stopped by throughout the year. From celebrities attending to unknown local talents, the cypher is open to anybody no matter the skill level.
